Googled to book a ferry from Portugal to Madeira and only got the Porto Santo ferry details.

Does anyone know how to book the ferry from Portugal to Madeira, that ran last year, I think from March to September.

Due to a near fatal condition in August 2018 I am not allowed to fly,  but my husband and I are desperate to get to Madeira.

Thanks

Dobermal. Sorry to hear about your condition!

Last year the details were not released until quite late and reported here on June 12:

https://madeiraislanddirect.com/blog/2018/06/more-ferry-details-released/

Hopefully the details will be announced earlier in the second year of operation

The website used last year was  http://madeira-ferry.pt/en/madeira-ferry/ - this now just comes up as "2018 Operations Completed".

The company was Empresa de Navegação Madeirense, part of Groupo Sousa

Apparently it is possible to travel between Leixos(Porto), Lisbon and Caniçal on the container ship Funchalense 5. The fare is rumoured to be €140 per person. The ship is part of the Grupo Sousa fleet. I am not sure how you book as I could not find any info on their website but there are email addresses so it may be worth firing off an email or calling one of the phone numbers listed.

This is what I received from Grupo Sousa:-

You have the possibility of traveling in the cargo ship “Funchalense 5” between the ports of Caniçal, Leixões and Lisbon. The cost of the voyage in a cabin is 140 €/person/trip (meals included).

To proceed with the booking please send us the following information:

- date of boarding

- phone number

- Address

- copy of the ID card/Passport

Email Geral para envio de pedidos de cotação Açores e Madeira – comercial-gslines@gruposousa.pt

Website -  http://www.enmadeirense.pt/

You will also have to carry out a Personal Accident Insurance, the sole responsibility of the passenger, specific to cover risks and civil liability for the sea voyage, in container ships, between the intended ports.

The ship completes a seven-day circuit and the schedule is on the website.

Hope this helps.

Baggage: only 1 luggage allowed up to 20kg
