We will be staying for three months early in the New Year and would like to be able to watch BBC iPlayer. The apartment has internet, but if I understand correctly I will need VPN software to watch iPlayer. Can anybody recommend one that works OK on Madeira?

Hi we were living in Germany for about 5 years until last year. At first we could get the BBC by using a VPM but abut 2 years ago the BBC stoped everyone doing this .I don’t know how but they know what you are doing😳 I would try one of the other ways that have been named. A VPM will let you use a British or any other phone number to phone home with no fee but most Mobil’s will let you do that

Enjoy your stay

There are a few different ways to get the BBC and other UK tv channels outside of the UK. Try these sites:-

https://easyview.eu

https://tvcatchup.com/

http://www.filmon.tv/tv/

You have to pay for Filmon these days. Some of the UK channels seemed to be blocked even with a VPN. You can get around this by watching through a third party like TVGuide. I do this when watching on my Ipad. On TV I use UKTVPlay, however it doesn't seem to like my VPN. It does however work with Smart DNS and VPN, Goodness knows why. Smart DNS is another way of watching UK TV abroad. Depends how techy you are but you can set it up on your router or smart TV. I even set it up on Apple TV, but don't need that at the mo cos it works fine on my Panasonic Android TV. If all else fails you can use Mobdro, but you have to have an Android device. Hope this helps. Just be careful there's a lot of crap out there.

I tried the easyview.eu when last over. Worked well but no time delay - on iPlayer you can live rewind 2 hours which is brilliant - not sure if any of the alternatives can do this?

Sorry for bringing up an old topic.

Anyone use smart dns for BBC iPlayer on smart TV?
I want to stream it to my TV without VPN

I've tried it but it's a bit hit and miss. I have an Android TV.
