Lobo Marinho develops engine problem
Yesterday afternoon’s Lobo Marinho trip to Porto Santo encountered a starboard engine problem which only allowed it to sail at a slower speed than normal. It then came to a stop at sea according to the Journal.
The ferry’s arrival on Porto Santo was expected to be delayed due to the problem, which was reported to passengers by the commander of the vessel. In addition to proceeding at a very low speed, clearly well below normal, it stopped shortly after leaving the port of Funchal.
The newspaper’s website reported that despite the problems, the ship seems to be functional and under its own control, otherwise the journey would not have continued. According to JM’s knowledge, the ferry had still not reached the area of Santa Cruz and Machico an hour after leaving Funchal.
The usual Saturday sailing from Funchal to Porto Santo has disappeared from the company’s website, but this could be simply due to its 8:00 am scheduled departure being within the next hour. The website Marine Traffic shows the vessel as still being in port in Funchal (the same website at 8:30 shows the ferry en-route to Porto Santo as normal, so the engine problem must have been fixed).
