Giant jellyfish spotted by divers off Cornwall
Thanks again to Peter for sending a link to a BBC News website. Nothing to do with Madeira, but the island is heading into the season where they can interfere with swimming at sea off the south coast. Nothing on this scale, however – a huge barrel jellyfish, as long as a human, has been seen off the coast of Cornwall.
Lizzie Daly, a biologist with Wild Ocean Week, said the creature was as big as her body. It is the largest species of jellyfish found in British waters, with the average diameter being about 40cm (16 inches). This one appears a little above average!
