Associação da Madeira de Esclerose Múltipla
The Diario reports that the Regional Secretary for Health, Pedro Ramos, yesterday met the leaders of the newly formed Madeira Multiple Sclerosis Association (AMEM), which has the aim of supporting users with this disease, as well as raising awareness of the disease.
The Association formalised its constitution in January 2019 and, on February 13, presented some of its main activities and purposes to the governor who supervises the area of health in Madeira. AMEM integrates patients with multiple sclerosis, family members and friends, as well as health professionals.
Currently, in the Regional Health Service (SESARAM), there are 112 patients with multiple sclerosis, a predominant disease in adults between the ages of 20 and 40, are diagnosed, affecting mostly female patients.
Therapy used for the treatment of this disease has as its main objective to control the activity of the disease in order to delay the progression of the patients’ incapacity, the prevention of the outbreaks and the control of the symptoms.
