Funchal joins “Clean Up the World” campaign.

‘Limpar o Funchal do Mar à Serra’

Funchal joins "Clean Up The World" campaignFunchal City Council last Friday joined the “Clean Up the World” campaign, which is part of a United Nations Environment Program. Funchal actively participates in these annual campaigns, with its own program ‘Clean Funchal do Mar à Serra’, which this year had as its main partner the Café do Teatro. The campaign saw 1000 volunteers from several public and private entities, collecting, 1900 kilos of garbage throughout the city.
Câmara Municipal representative Idalina Perestrelo stressed that “the campaign had a strong pedagogical component, giving continuity to the multiple actions of “environmental education” that the municipality develops throughout the year. Responding to the call of the CMF, 20 educational institutions participated with a total of 628 children and adolescents and 73 adults.
(for those like me that didn’t know the word, Pedagogy, according to the dictionary, is the study of how knowledge and skills are exchanged in an educational context, and it considers the interactions that take place during learning!)

The app, which was launched some while ago, is still proving very popular, but for those who missed it, it is repeated here, with a link in the sidebar to the app itself.

Madeira News app logoThe app can be added to your tablet or smartphone home screen for immediate access, and pages load more quickly than viewed in a traditional browser. In addition there is also the “Accelerated Mobile Pages” version of the website that has been available for a year or so, which cuts down on the overheads for mobile devices and makes viewing even more speedy.
