You can hardly have missed the 61 meter (200ft) “SuperYacht” (some term it a “MegaYacht”) EXCELLENCE V which has been docked in Funchal over the last few days – just watched it head off in a westerly direction this morning.
According to mediterraneanboat.com it was built by Abeking & Rasmussen and launched in 2011. “The yacht’s weeping exterior lines complement the vastness of the striking interior by the renowned design team of Reymond Langton Design. Huge windows allow for ample natural light and fantastic views. A circular glass elevator takes guests to all decks”.
“Amenities include a Gym, Cinema and Beach Club on the lower deck. The Gym and Beach Club each feature a balcony. With the galley down and all toys & tenders stowed in the garage, her decks are clear for total guest enjoyment. Dine alfresco on the bridge deck aft or watch the game at the sports bar with its large TV. There is a second Jacuzzi on the sundeck for guest use and aft sunbeds on both the sundeck and bridge deck levels in addition to ample seating on all outside decks”

Boutique Lido chain disappears?
More economic bad news is that the bakery/cafe chain behind the highly popular “Boutique Lido” pastelaria beneath the Raga Hotel on the Estrada Monumental in the Lido appears to have closed. The very busy cafe “Boutique d’Ajuda” behind the Forum also closed at the beginning of August and shows no sign of re-opening. Difficult to see why an apparently successful organisation like this should run into troubles, but of course a lot of businesses are now having to pay increased IVA (VAT), typically payable 3 or 6 months in arrears – and the majority or goods and services moved from 16 to 22% earlier this year.
