Santo da Serra market set to return?

… as early as next weekend

RTP Madeira is reporting that the popular market at Santo da Serra could return as early as next weekend. This is after the Diocese of Funchal, which owns the land where the market was held, is understood to have reached an agreement with the Associação de Feirantes, which is made up of traders who were present at the site before it closed in early November as reported here. Presumably, the Santa Cruz authorities will be left with the previous debt from the same traders?

Apparently the market will remain under the same conditions, except that licensing will now be done with the Machico Chamber and direct leasing with the Association.

  1. Busy day in the port today. Three big cruise ships filling the harbour so a fourth ship the Zenith is having to anchor just outside. At 1pm the Msc Poesia is due to leave after a very short visit and around 3:30pm the cruise ship Berlin is due in.

Keep an eye on the 12th & 13th as the Portuguese Navy submarine NRP TRIDENTE arrives for a two-day visit.
