Santa Cruz lights prove popular

Christmas lights switch-on well attended

JM reports that the Christmas lights in Santa Cruz, which were turned on last night, proved popular, with the occasion being well attended. “The newspaper comments that music and tradition is what Santa Cruz promises you this Christmas”. “From music, historical staging, sports, show-cooking, to theatre, there is no shortage of reasons to visit the county”.

The event that started yesterday, with video mapping by Mário Lopes, which, if I am not mistaken, featured last year.

Santa Cruz is the second-most populous municipality in Madeira, behind Funchal. The population in 2011 (Wikipedia has no more up-to-date figures) was 43,005, spread over Camacha, Caniço, Gaula, Santa Cruz itself, and Santo António da Serra. Administratively, Santa Cruz includes the offshore Desertas Islands

Replication is an even more sincere form of flattery

  1. I noticed on the “Vista sul” webcam that the little Christmas train for the kiddies that has been in the Praça Municipio for the last few years is not there this year. Anyone know if they have placed it somewhere else?
