Cruise cancelled just days before departure
The Express reports that passengers due to enjoy a pre-Christmas cruise onboard one of P&O’s most luxurious ships have been left devastated after the MV Ventura broke down in the Canaries, leading to a major cancellation this weekend. As reported here the massive cruise ship was sailing towards Lanzarote last weekend when it developed propulsion problems and had to be towed into Santa Cruz de Tenerife by tugs. The rest of the cruise has now been cut short and the ship is returning to Southampton. Jaime has kindly sent in a link to YouTube channel with a rather annoying voice-over which up-dates the situation at the start of the week.
P&O has announced that due to this situation, a four-day cruise to Amsterdam this Friday has been cancelled and passengers will get all their money back plus a 20 % discount on a future cruise. According to the Express, holidaymakers due to travel today say they are devastated, with Charlotte Puddy tweeting: “Absolutely devastated. Supposed to be our honeymoon! I know it’s not your fault but not sure I want to book with P&O again.” Another woman who was due to travel, Julie Wright said: “This was our honeymoon and our first cruise. Can’t book anything else as the refund will be by cheque due to it being booked through Thomas Cook. “Hotel, travel insurance all paid for. No chance to even book anywhere else for the days we’ve booked off work”.
The Ventura is next due in Madeira on December 24th, after visiting the Canaries on a cruise scheduled to leave Southampton on the 17th.
