World Aids Day sees 7% increase in HIV
Sunday, December 1st is a national holiday in Portugal, being the date that marks the Restoration of Independence against the kingdom of Castella in 1640. This also coincides with the inauguration of the Christmas lights in Funchalthis year, as well as being World AIDS Day. The headline in today’s Diario is that HIV has reached close to 700 cases in the archipelago, increasing 7% in the first half of this year. Funchal, Santana and Porto Santo have the highest prevalence.
Photo taken last week as part of one of the main Christmas displays was being assembled at Praça do Povo on the seafront – thank you David.
