Inmates moved to Funchal Prison to ease overcrowding
The Journal reports in today’s print edition that a group of 35 inmates have been transferred from other mainland jails to Funchal Prison (EPF) in Cancela. Their website later had a photo of the Portuguese Air Force plane arriving in the Region.
The transfer is part of a prison population management policy, given the overcrowding situation of some jails, as opposed to the EPF.
This is not the first time this has happened – the blog reported on an identical number being brought to the island in August this year.
