Strong winds affect airport operations

Gusts of 73 km/hr recorded today

The Diario reported at midday today that the strong wind that had been encountered near the Madeira International Airport had disturbed some flights, in particular, arrivals, and has already forced an easyJet plane from Bristol to abort an approach to the Santa Cruz track. The same aircraft made a second attempt, however, which made it possible to land at Madeira Airport. Another plane of the same airline, in this instance coming from London, was also forced into a holding pattern between Madeira and Porto Santo, waiting for atmospheric conditions to allow them to complete the approach, which has already been completed.

In the last hour the automatic weather station, installed next to the airport control tower, recorded a gust of up to 73 km / h, and the average wind between 10 and 11 hour this morning was 42.1 km/h .
