Call to protect the Laurissilva of Madeira
This Sunday, September 15th, at 3 pm, there will be a demonstration against the planned Ginjas Road in the protected Laurissilva in the municipality of São Vicente.
This is an initiative organized by the group ‘Awakening Madeira’ which created a Facebook event to appeal to people to join this demonstration in favour of nature.
The organisation recommends that attendees bring waterproof clothing and shoes suitable for walking, a snack and blanket – “all good ideas to act for the sustainability of the Laurissilva of Madeira”.
Ginjas Road is in the process of being intervened with asphalt and concrete, this being a work that was announced by the Regional Government.
“This could be the last opportunity to meet her on dirt unless we speak out for nature”, says the organization.
