Consumer Price Index down for the eighth month
The Diario reports that in July 2019, the average change registered by the Consumer Price Index over the previous twelve months recorded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 1.2%, 0.3 percentage points lower than the previous month. It was the eighth consecutive month in which the index decreased.
Data from the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira state that the ‘Alcoholic Beverages’ and ‘Transport’ classes had the highest positive changes, with 4.1% and 3.6% respectively. Conversely, the largest negative variations were observed in the ‘Clothing and Footwear’ and ‘Communications’ classes, with -3.6% and -1.2%, respectively.
At the national level, the average rate of change over the last twelve months of the CPI was 0.7%, 0.2% less than in the previous month.
In July 2019, the average value of housing rents per square metre of floor area in the Region was 0.3% higher than the previous month (0.2%).
