Tourist rescued at Doca do Cavacas

Current takes swimmer out to sea

The Journal reports that a 58-year-old French tourist was this afternoon rescued by FrenteMar Funchal lifeguards after being taken out to sea by the current at Doca do Cavacas.

According to an eyewitness, a tourist vessel (easily identified by those familiar with tourist vessels operating in the area) passed by the man being carried by the current, whilst not complying with the 300-metre limit away from the coast recommended by law to avoid endangering the safety of bathers.

JM reports that the tourist was tired and could not return to land, and it was necessary a quick action on the part of the lifeguards to rescue the man.
