Planned intervention on dangerous escarpment
The Diario reports that the Municipal Council of São Vicente combined with the Regional Government are proceeding with the dismantling of unstable rocks located on the escarpment overlooking the sea front in the village. The process that will take two days, starting yesterday and continuing today, said the vice president of the municipality this afternoon. Fernando Góis said that the necessary precautions had been taken to restrict motor traffic and pedestrian movement in the affected area.
This “concerted action”, according to the mayor, is based on a “report from the LREC – Regional Laboratory of Civil Engineering – which drew attention to the need to remove aggregates from the slope. The condition of the cliff was considered dangerous to motorists and passers-by, so the option was to resort to an intervention of the Regional Government.
