Fire risk increases

“Very high” fire risk

The Diario website reports that the risk of fire in Madeira will increase in the coming days, climbing to the “very high” level on Friday.
They report that according to the Portuguese Weather Institute today, Wednesday, only Porto Santo has a “high” risk of fire, while the rest of Madeira is at “moderate” risk, where it will remain until tomorrow.

However, it is on Friday that the risk of fire will worsen, with several municipalities with “high” and even “very high” fire risk, as is the case of Funchal. The “high” risk in Porto Santo will continue, but  Câmara de Lobos and Santa Cruz will join this level on Friday, as illustrated in the map on the Weather Institute’s website.

The index of fire hazard is determined indirectly through observations of meteorological elements, taking into account temperature, relative humidity, the intensity of the wind and the precipitation accumulated in the last 24 hours.

  1. Very pleased that government & local councils have created Fire Risk warnings in anticipation of an early hot summer. Prevention is better than cure. It’s up to the population and the tourists in general to ACT RESPONSIBLE & ALERT.🤔
