Work starts on cliff-face in Calheta

Commercial establishments closed for 3 months

The Journal reports that work has started on the on the slopes overlooking the Porto de Recreio in Calheta, which will lead to the closure of the road and all the commercial establishments in that area. Machinery is already on location, as well as signage to control alternate automobile circulation for the time being. Work should start in force next Monday, January 21
The road and the shops in the vicinity will be closed for an estimated 3 months.
The Regional Government decided to extend for a further week the closure of companies and commercial establishments operating in the Calheta Recreational Port. The decision came after a wave of criticism from some businesses who wanted more time to leave the space and solve some employee-related issues and supplier contracts. Some businessmen also want to get more clarification in terms of compensation.
