Top places to visit in 2019

The Journal on Friday reported that Forbes magazine, have listed their choice of the 19 top destinations to visit in 2019 after talking to some of the world’s top travel experts to find out where they would like to go in the coming months. Portugal was represented by its two archipelagos: the Azores and Madeira.
The Azores, explains the article, because it is a “set of beautiful islands in the middle of the Atlantic that is a true treasure”. With new direct flights from the US, they are now very easy to reach for Americans, according to the article. The islands are described as the ideal place to spend holidays, “for the adventure outdoors, along with its historical and cultural charm”. The author adds: “These islands have something for everyone: vineyards, volcanic crater lakes, whale watching, hot springs, UNESCO protected landscapes, natural pools, hot springs, diving, surfing, and waterfalls” In the background, the Azores are a “huge playground of natural beauty”.
In relation to the Madeira archipelago, it is described as “a destination of great natural wealth and still quite unexplored”. The magazine writes: “Because of its remote location, there is a sense of something exotic and isolated – but it is Portugal, so the food and culture are there. For those who love nature, it is a place not to be missed.
Among the other 19 recommended destinations are Havana, in Cuba; Cartagena, Colombia; Ljubljana, Slovenia; Mérida, Mexico; Baha Mar in the Bahamas; as well as Kenya, Montenegro, Belize, Bhutan, Botswana, Iceland, and Krabi in Thailand.

  1. We’ve been to 5 of the 9 Azorean islands and would recommend them as a holiday destination. Thankfully they have not been spoilt by over development the way west Funchal has.
