The Diario front page leads with the story that from March, pensioners with income up to 240 euros will be entitled to a free bus pass in urban and inter-urban public transport on the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo. The decision of the Regional Government will apply to tens of thousands of pensioners.

Also on the cover is Eduardo Nunes, Coordinator of Criminal Investigation of PJ, who is leaving after almost six years in Madeira. “PJ apprehensive with synthetic drugs and cannabis production” is the title that accompanies the image. In an interview with Diario, which warns of the increase in computer crimes, he also talks about the problem of fake dollars brought by emigrants from Venezuela.

Christmas lights turned off

The Christmas illuminations were switched off for the last time over the weekend. As usual they have attracted a lot of tourists to Funchal. We look forward to the usual controversy, allegations, counter allegations, court cases and last-minute deadlines before they return at the end of 2019.

    • From what I saw of the lights from all the photos posted I agree that they were probably the best yet.

      Hoping that they will be as good next Christmas as we hope to be back in Funchal.
