32 million UK users without internet.

O2 data network down this morning

Nothing to do with Madeira really, but various sources are reporting this morning that 32 million O2 customers are without any data connection. The number includes customers on Tesco Mobile, Lyca Mobile and GiffGaff who have also been hit by the outage, as O2 is behind their connections.
A statement on the mobile provider’s website says: “Our technical teams are investigating reports of issues when using data. “Voice calls are working OK. We apologise for any inconvenience. Updates will be shared as soon as they are available. Please keep an eye on our status checker”.
Don’t know how they will get round the minor problem of their customers being unable to visit their webiste, but it show how much we take the technology for granted nowadays!

  1. It’s easy to access the Internet via another provider (provided they aren’t using the same infrastructure) provided you
    a) have one
    b) know someone who does
    c) can visit a cafē or shopping centre with free Wi-fi

(At home I’m covered because I have three different Internet providers including one that is very slow as included in the house fee. But then I used to work with computers and once upon a time needed the other two)
