Yellow warning for heavy seas.

The North coast of Madeira and the island of Porto Santo will from midnight today until midnight tomorrow be under a yellow warning due to the heavy seas forecast, with waves of 4 to 5 metres high, according to IPMA, the Portuguese “Met Office”. Based on this information the Captaincy of the Port of Funchal has  issued a warning to vessels navigating the area until 6 o’clock tomorrow. Visibility is expected to be good to moderate.
The North Coast starts this morning with Northwesterly waves of 2 to 3.5 metres, rising to more than 4 metres at the end of the day. To the south, the swell will be from the Southwest with 1 to 1.5 metres. The Port Authority of Funchal has recommended that owners of vessels take the necessary precautions to remain in ports of refuge.
Today IPMA predicts for the archipelago a day of generally very cloudy sky, diminishing from the beginning of the morning, with periods of rain or showers, particularly on higher ground.
