Airport problems. Pico Arieiro. SPAD

Airport problems again.

Flight radar image of Funchal airportA few problems at the airport early this morning. Fortunately the airport was not very busy and the situation quickly returned to normal. I am keen not to overplay any difficulties due to the winds at Santa Cruz – particularly when it is only a couple of relatively local flights that are slightly delayed – or in the case of easyJet from the mainland, quickly cancelled. The situation quickly returned to normal after the early morning gusts died down.

The trail linking Pico Arieiro and Pico Ruivo featured in a list of the top European hikes published by the Guardian earlier this week.

SPAD / Câmara de Lobos posterToday – 13 January – the municipality of Câmara de Lobos launches an animal adoption campaign in partnership with SPAD. There is a link to the Câmara de Lobos Facebook page here. There is a link to the Sociedade Protectora dos Animais Domésticos Facebook page here. Their largely unseen and underpaid work is to be highly applauded.

Festa dos Compadres

Festa dos CompadresThe Festa dos Compadres takes place between the 1st and 8th of next month.
This traditionally marks the opening of the Carnival season in Madeira, a tradition with more than 50 years celebrated with great enthusiasm in the municipality of Santana. The highlight is over the weekend of 3 and 4 February.
It is an event known for its originality, marked by its amusing giant figures that parade humour, colour and joy through the streets of this picturesque city located in the north of the island of Madeira.

Maybe better not reporting minor problems at the airport. Potential visitors are easily deterred if they think their holiday might be curtailed. Less Daily Mail reporting please!

Just booked a TAP flight, and although I paid with no surcharge as has always been the case using a Debit Card, I noticed that the Credit Card surcharge was still there when you got to the payment screen? This is supposed to be illegal as of yesterday?

Off to Santa Cruz this afternoon for the festa when the gentle showers will have all gone. Madeira remains as lovely and inviting to a visitor as always
