“Three up from the first leg, the nine-times champions started brightly but had to wait until the 26th minute to open the scoring as Cristiano Ronaldo tapped home Marcelo’s cross.
Kaka doubled Real’s lead with a stunning effort from outside the area eight minutes before half-time, but the best goal was scored by Gustavo Manduca as he pulled one back for the visitors after a flowing team move midway through the second half.

Ronaldo soon restored the hosts’ two-goal advantage and substitutes Jose Maria Callejon and Angel Di Maria added further goals either side of Esteban Solari’s 82nd-minute penalty for the visitors.
Jose Mourinho rested some of his established stars as Xabi Alonso, Mesut Ozil and Karim Benzema started on the Real bench.

But one who did play was Ronaldo, who bagged his 48th goal of the season when he bundled the ball home

Kaka scored the second with a brilliant curling effort…”

  1. In case anybody notices, I have taken off the Facebook and Google+ buttons as they were cluttering up the postings – and nobody was using them as they pertained to each post rather than the blog as whole.

  2. Thanks Karen. All I need to understand now is how to work out when Easter and Shrove Tuesday fall each year !!! – it has been explained to me several times but never stuck – I guess it’s easier for the religious-minded.

  3. Hard luck Martin!

I am very pleased that “my” weather forecast (on the right-hand column – truth be known it is really only a graphic representation of data from a highly regarded organisation called AccuWeather) has been right all week, predicting rain over the holiday weekend – true enough – rain in Funchal this morning!

  4. Yes, good accurate weather forecasts Admin – I used to rely on various other sites but they invariably got it wrong! Good for my “guest” forecasts…..thanks.

Flower Festival starts on the 19th through to 25th April, main parade (I believe) is on Sunday the 22nd = covering Queen Elizabeths Birthday on the 21st and St Georges Day on the 23rd!

Indeed, our SA in Santa Cruz appears to be struggling also = empty shelves, poor quality fruit/veg and high prices…….and the new SA in Machico is like an empty aircraft hanger. Machico Pingo Doce, on the other hand, is a hive of activity with crowded shelves and crowded shoppers = good quality stocks at good prices.

Cool today but brighter and looking good Admin!

    Happy Earter ALL.

  5. SA, are having big problems, and have not been paying suppliers, the rumour is we wont be seeing SA for very much longer, talk of Lidl taking over a while back but don’t know if that is still on the cards.
