a lot of places seem to have been hit bad with the storm this morning , i have seen the news and praia formosa and RB are quite bad , also the Açores have been hit bad with 100 people missing.

Airport closed most of morning, the 11 am stansted flight arrived at 14.30 being stuck in lisbon then porto santo, the gatwick flight landed at porto santo and all the people there have been told they will stay a night in a hotel and flown over in the morning. The cosat cruise ship didnt stop at madeira today , and Island Escape is still stuck in port.

Looks better for tomorrow , then bad again Thursday...

Ken your booze sounds good....

Enjoyed the blog today, particularly the piece about Liqueurs.
As a pleasant pastime I do my own distillation of alcohol, usually from the lees of winemaking, usually achieving an average of about 43% ABV.

I then keep much of this alcohol suitably treated in an oak barrel. After about 3 years I now have over 60 litres of very drinkable Brandy – the real stuff, not just Aguaredente which the Madeirans call brandy, but is usually just clear alcohol.
With donations of fresh cherries from a pal in Estreito da Camara da Lobes a few years ago, I have also used my raw alcohol to make a very drinkable Cherry Liqueur reduced to about 23% ABV- just right for the ladies, and others :-)

Thanks Der - worst storm at this end also! Yep, pot plant damage and some water ingress also through lifted roof tiles!?! Calmer now - seems most of the (heaviest we have ever had) rain has passed and the sun is actually shinning! No power cuts here but the Airport was unusable for a while - flights seem to be arriving/departing now though. Storm tossed seas with BIG white horses and brown muddy patches...looks like it could be bad again from Wednesday eve.....sorry, at least it's warm team!

wow, some storm this morning! The worst I have seen here, even worse than the one going on in the regional Assembly as I write.

The power cut was expected, but I had water ingress through the doors, some things outside were broken, and bits of plants are stuck to the walls. It just came and passed in about 15 minutes.

It's a bit late now, but I have just read in the Diário that we are on orange alert (the second highest), with advice not to go out on foot or by car in high and exposed places, with wind gusts of up to 120 km/h.
