How well do you know Madeira?
How well do you know Madeira? This weeks teaser is another from Sheila.
"Here is another mystery pic rated at four out of 10 for difficulty, except in the case of Vela or XXXX when one out of 10 might be more appropriate". (XXXX removed, otherwise it might be more obvious. Der).
48 hours allowed, then the correct answer will be given (if necessary).

Sheila you HAVE made an impact – we “picked up” on SPAD due to your written works – PLEASE do NOT give up……look at Gizmo and Lucy!
The mountain of world wide human and animal suffering is huge, growing even daily, whilst the rulers, leaders and politicians seem only concerned in themselves, their wealth and gratification.
No, one single person cannot change the “system” and perhaps that is indeed why individuals are reluctant to speak out, comment or otherwise engage.
BUT we must not retreat behind our closed front doors (and double glazing a ka U.K.) – Madeira is still an “open” society with many good people doing their best (some with government initiative) and the war on corruption here is working – I know, I speak from personal experience – don’t “give up”….the recession is not your fault.
The WORLD needs people who care and the more that do and SHOW it, the more chance we have of making a difference – go for it girl, we’re right behind you on the animal issues and alongside you on all the others!
…… I have absolutely no idea where the pic is…?!?!
1Well said Jon,as always.
2No idea where the murial is but would like to see it in the flesh when next in Madeira.
Are any tiles made on the Island?
or are they always brought in from Portugal?
It is mercado and/or praca do peixe in Santa Cruz
3“One of the murals at the entrance to Santa Cruz market”. Well done Vela!
4Thanks Der !
5I am sure this mural is depicted on Portal NetMadeira homepage highlighting the Conference on Human Mobility in History and Literature.
6The beautiful azulejo mural (pic in queston), near the entrance to the market hall in Santa Cruz, was created by the Portuguese artist Oureiro Agueda. A similar work is also displayed on the southern entrance wall – unique and certainly worth a “looksee”.
As you promenade eastwards (towards the airport) one of the best remaining collection of indigenous Dragon trees (an oddly shaped tree with a bare trunk and a top-knot of multiple clusters of long, thin, grey-green leaves) is visible to your left and above – in fact, in a garden park above the walkway.
A great place for a picnic and some classical music – next to the music school. Great coastal views and opposite the superb local restaurant “Marisqueira do Mar” (seafood restaurant) that we love!
Of course I didn’t know where the pic was from – Der swore me to secrecy!
