How well do you know Madeira?
This weeks main puzzler from Eiryl, with thanks. "We were amazed to see this monstrosity when we last did the ************. It’s a horrible colour and plasticky (or it might be made out of glass fibre) The second photo explains what it is! Personally, I think the walk looks better without coming across it".
The second photo will follow when the correct answer is given. 48 hours maximum as usual.
It is of course on the panoramic promenade coastal walk in West Funchal. It’s not far from the Pestana Grand Hotel and the new Pestana Hotel. If you cannot read the text, it says ‘Dighton Rock Replica’.
Well done Josie!

Is there a competition to fill in the missing word?
1I go for “Bossa Nova”.
I think any dance would be better without the ‘monstrosity’.
“When we last did”…… the fandango?
EEerrr, to me it looks like a sign/map painted over with an “undercoat” ready for the map/sign to be repainted – perhaps a walk/levada route map?
I think that I can just about see a word at the top ….. ” B I S I O ….. “?!?!? Or is it just me!
Haven’t a clue as to where it is though…….so I’ll go and have a coffee in the sun.
2It’s on the Promeade walk, commemorating the drinking of Madeira wine in America at the signing of the Declaration of American Independance in 1776
3You have what it is correct Josie, but where is it (town / city??). I think you know, but to get Eiryl’s hamper you need to pin down the location. Do you know what it is called, for the bonus hamper?
4I don’t think it wise to allow the colonies such strong wine.
5Ponta Gorda in lido area Funchal
6Well done Josie
7Well done Josie indeed.
8But ….. Dighton Rock (on Tommy) had inscriptions …. not replicated here? Why not? Another “good” tacky job by the tourist board then…..
