Chit-Chat & Today’s Photo … Sunbathing Jellyfish

August 28, 2009 By: admin Category: Reader Chat & Questions

TODAY’S PHOTO : Thanks to Tobi … "A stranded jellyfish, we caught it in a cap then threw it back in the sea". Hmmm, I think I would left it in peace enjoying the sunbathing personally. At first glance I thought it was something some kids had left behind.

This is a really interesting read, with quite a few facts(?) that I didn’t know. It’s primary subject is grapes and wine, but there is much more also. VINOFILES

This one on the other hand is poorly written, but has a few titbits and some nice photos. HERE

  1. I have a general query. Does anybody know of a good cattery or cat sittting service on Madeira island?

We are moving to Arco next year but have just sold our house in the UK and have to go into rented accommodation – unfortunately the cats can’t come with us.

Any help will be much appreciated

  2. SPAD is a local charitable society for the protection of domestic animals . They have a very good boarding service for pets. For full details, you could ring one of the SPAD vets (they speak English) – just ask for Dr Sofia, Dr Carolina or Dr Raquel on 291 220 852.

  3. Reading, Der about the planning controls or lack of them, you report below, allowing such monstrosities such as the CS Madeira Hotel and the expansion of Ajuda.
Suspicions sre aroused by the results of these buildings.
    Who benefits?
    Who has the biggest Ferrari?
What amazes me is the prices being asked for and gained? for concrete style apartments in Ajuda.
Concrete monstosities have price tags in excess of 250K Euro and 350 is common, 950 for some!
Who is buying? And Why? Is it legal money? Laundering of ill gotten gains?
One might suspect Russian sponsorship because the severe and crap style of the developments is so familiar and similar to those apartments built to house Soviet citizens after the Second World War.
Why does the Madeiran people allow the architechtural rape of their Island?
Portuguese architects can be so creative, given a chance.
I understand that this style of building will continue further along the beautiful coast until Camara de Lobos is reached.
Can we not protest and to whom?
At this point wealthy retirees and holiday makers who would have chosen the Island ‘cos it’s pretty will look elsewhere ,or am I hopelessly wrong again?

  4. To risky to say here Martin, but if you were to have a game of snap with the names of Madeira’s politicians, and shareholders in Madeira’s cement company and favoured construction companies, you would be hearing ‘snap’ more than once, especially if trying to bend pencils at the same time.

  5. Its Raining. :-)
