Chit-Chat & Today’s Photo … Estrelicia
TODAY’S PHOTO : Thanks to Sarah … an Estrelicia flower, or ‘bird of paradise’ as some clever flower seller came up with years ago
São Pedro fever is building in town, as the festival lighting and street decorations are still being mounted, and the ‘barracas’ are now being built on the beach, ready to sell espada, frango, and freshly cooked bolo do caco to the thousands of visitors expected over the weekend, and through to Monday (a public holiday in Ribeira Brava). The first event is tomorrow night at 10pm with an outdoor cinema showing ‘Golpe Quase Perfeito’ better known as ‘The Hoax’ in English. I would have thought that a film released in 2006 was a bit of a poor offering, but perhaps our council is a bit strapped for cash at the moment. I am told that a kilo of espetada (beef cubes) will be selling at around €18 a kilo, probably more than you would pay in a normal restaurant. Add to that the facts that you have to cook it and serve it yourself, and there are no accompaniments, so not a good deal really. Many people bring their own. People tend to save up their cêntimos for this event, so I am hoping that it won’t be crisis hit, and the many traders can make up a little profit in what has probably been a bad year for most of them so far.

Sad news about the untimely death of Michael Jackson. Whilst I wasn’t a huge fan of him, I think his music was sensational and he has done a lot for the world of music. His hit Thriller is still the biggest seller ever, which says a lot for his music. Although he was eccentric and if not a little weird I think he will be greatly missed and feel that the public often didn’t see the sensitive and more normal side of him that his family and friends saw. r.i.p. Michael.
1Yes Emily , his music was great , and will continue to be played for many years to come.
Fantastic sunny day today, but rain is still forecast for the weekend.
2Tobi, Emily I agree with you both with regards to the music. I grew up with Mowtown music and I think it will probably always be my favourite but I can honestly say that I loved Michael Jacksons stuff throughout the decades, the new as much as the old! I also think that maybe not all was right with the guy and I think that a lot of us will have to agree to disagree about things that either may or may not of happened. I am definately really sorry to lose him from my world!
