In an article about immigration to the island during 2006, it was reported that legally registered residents from foreign countries had increased by 71% during the year to 6,734 (2,538 in 2000). The biggest group of foreigners now on the island were from Brazil at 1139 followed by the Ukrainians at 1,052, the British at 689, the Germans at 540, and the Venezuelans at 294.
bloggers comment – Bear in mind these are people who already have, or have applied for residency. For sure there are significant numbers not registered to add to this, specially working in time share.
